MEET ME ON CLOUD 9…LITERALLY

DSCN1292

If you are into hiking and climbing you will definitely love Bulgaria. ‘Huh? What?’ ‘Where was that again?’ Bulgaria is not the most popular tourist destination but you’ll be surprised to find out how much this small country can offer. The country side is absolutely gorgeous! Another plus – it’s incredibly cheap.

Today I take you with me to the top of Vihren – the highest peak of Bulgaria’s Pirin Mountains, reaching 2,914 meters. It is also Bulgaria’s second and the Balkans’ third highest peak. I’m lucky to be from a town surrounded by mountains and very close to Vihren.

It took me about three hours to get to the top with lots of stops along the way to admire the beauty of the mountains. For the more unexperienced I recommend climbing in the summer, as the weather conditions can be a problem during other times of the year. It’s also quite steep and with lots of stones along the way. Make sure you take a good pair of shoes with you.
