With the Carnival in full speed, I thought I’d share with you some photos from the beautiful Italian city – Venice.
The Venetial masks
The masks are a centuries old tradition of Venice. The Venetian masks are typically worn during the Carnival of Venice, but they have been used on several other occasions in the city’s past. The idea behind them was hiding the identity and social status of the wearer. Laws were passed banning the masks while gambling or wearing them during religious festivals, severely restricting their use in daily life. Later it was stipulated when masks could be worn – during Carnevale! Today the Carnival lasts two weeks, ending with the celebration of Lent, attracting tourists from all over the world.
Have you ever been in Venice during Carnevale?
