LITTLE TREATS

We all have those moments when we need just a little something to lift us up. Very often it seems like an unnecessary purchase but it feels so good! Although such spontaneous purchases should not be too hard on our budget, big or small, they can make a huge difference! For myself, going to the market and buying fresh flowers works like magic. I am all about decorating my space and the flowers bring the place to life. How do you treat yourself? Spa? Fancy places? New book? Advertisements

HOW TO BE A PARISIAN WHEREVER YOU ARE

If you still haven’t gotten your hands on this book, now is the perfect time to cozy up with a good read! Because we all love Paris and the melody of the French language, perhaps at some point in our lives we wanted to be French, or just because life as a Parisian is plus belle, the book written by the four girlfriends Anne Berest, Audrey Diwan, Caroline de Maigret and Sophie Mas is a must have. How to be a Parisian Wherever You Are gives a glimpse into the lives of typical Parisians, beauty tips, tips about the do’s and don’ts in fashion, and French recipes. And above all, it is hilarious! One of my favourite quotes from the book: “Take the time to talk to the elderly lady next door, to read a book, to walk to work instead of riding the subway when it’s a beautiful day. Take the time to escape for a weekend with friends. Take the time to listen and to get to know yourself. Take the time to change, to …

GIVE FROM THE HEART

The past few years I have been living in three different countries. My homeland does not always feel completely like ‘home.’ Not because I dislike something about it; on the contrary, it is a great place. It’s just that I’ve seen so much outside its borders, made memories and friends, that I can’t feel whole. I’m a citizen of the world. Canada, or lets call it my second-home, is where I spent my teen years. It holds a special place in my heart. For over ten years, I have spent every holiday season in this beautiful country. Canada is home. But this year is, well…different. I’ve been living in The Netherlands for over a year and this Christmas it is my home. When I started thinking of Christmas and how to keep my sanity through the New Year, I somehow thought of all this moving from one place to another. Sometimes I feel so overwhelmed with the amount of stuff I collect (it’s hell of a lot of work when you have to move)! This …

MEET ME AT 5&33

Just at the corner of Martelaarsgracht and Prins Hendrikkade in Amsterdam, you will find the perfect spot in town for  foodies and art lovers. 5&33 has a kitchen, bar, lounge, art gallery, and library just a few steps away from the Central station. I picked the spot for a dinner with a friend and it quickly became a favourite of mine. The vibrant venue first captured  me with its design, ambiance, and elegant interior. The menu is inspired by Mediterranean flavours, offering a shared-dining concept (which I applauded after the first few dishes came around. You just want to try everything there is on the menu!).  5&33 is one of the places you love everything about. If I had to describe it in a few words, I would use inspiring, fresh, and chic.

‘TIS THE SEASON

It’s that time of the year again. Christmas lights, gorgeous shop windows, sparkles,  and cosy moments – what’s there not to love!? This festive season, to beat the queues and stress around your Christmas shopping, make sure you plan and don’t leave everything till the last moment. I usually make a list but always stay open for new gems that come my way. And to add the finishing touches, De Bijenkorf, definitely a Dutch favourite chain, has a great collection and variety of handmade Christmas cards. All done! – Time to kick back with a glass of your favorite something. What is your shopping strategy this season?
