It has taken me a while to finally select some pictures of Amsterdam and share them with you. You can say I’m lucky to live so close to this amazing city. It is such a diverse place – a fine mixture of old and new, calm and bustling, grey and sunny. Okay, I lied a bit about that last part. Mostly grey but I guess you can’t have it all. I am already used to all the bicycles, bridges, and canals; what strikes me are the houses! You can see all kinds of creative architecture. The houses around the canals of the city can be crooked and leaning to one side. Imagine living in one of them! Well, take a walk/ride down the streets with me… Advertisements
Just at the corner of Martelaarsgracht and Prins Hendrikkade in Amsterdam, you will find the perfect spot in town for foodies and art lovers. 5&33 has a kitchen, bar, lounge, art gallery, and library just a few steps away from the Central station. I picked the spot for a dinner with a friend and it quickly became a favourite of mine. The vibrant venue first captured me with its design, ambiance, and elegant interior. The menu is inspired by Mediterranean flavours, offering a shared-dining concept (which I applauded after the first few dishes came around. You just want to try everything there is on the menu!). 5&33 is one of the places you love everything about. If I had to describe it in a few words, I would use inspiring, fresh, and chic.
Just like every metropolis, Amsterdam has its SkyLounge rooftop bar with a beautiful terrace and breathtaking view of the city. It’s on the 11th floor of the DoubleTree by Hilton, just a few steps from Amsterdam’s Central Station. I first visited the bar for after-work drinks with colleagues and in an instant I fell completely in love with it. Don’t forget to try the cocktails! ‘Meihana’ comes in a coconut shell (unfortunately not a real one) and tastes amazing. Although I very much enjoy the night view, the bar is a great place to go to any time of the day. It is perfect for coffee, lunch, or a quick bite.
