THE GEM OF THE SOUTH

Today’s post is about Delft – the charming and picturesque city in the South of Holland. It’s an absolute must-see. The city is full of history, culture and beautiful architecture. There really is something for everyone in Delft. You can enjoy a nice walk around the many canals that go through the city, have a cold beer while observing life around you, or even take a boat trip around the city. It is not very big and in a day you can see a lot of it. Something interesting for the art lovers – the painter Vermeer lived and worked in Delft almost his whole life. In Delft you can discover more about his life. And if you want some peace and quiet, the Botanical garden can offer you just that. It is easy to reach Delft by public transport. I like to travel by train. Now lets take a stroll… Advertisements

AMSTERDAM

It has taken me a while to finally select some pictures of Amsterdam and share them with you. You can say I’m lucky to live so close to this amazing city. It is such a diverse place – a fine mixture of old and new, calm and bustling, grey and sunny. Okay, I lied a bit about that last part. Mostly grey but I guess you can’t have it all. I am already used to all the bicycles, bridges, and canals; what strikes me are the houses! You can see all kinds of creative architecture. The houses around the canals of the city can be crooked and leaning to one side. Imagine living in one of them! Well, take a walk/ride down the streets with me…

ROTTERDAM SUNSETS

The harbour of Rotterdam has become one of the most important harbours in the world and it is the biggest one in Europe. Rotterdam is the second largest Dutch city with a mix of modern culture, innovative developments, and historical heritage. It was almost completely destroyed after being bombed by German air attacks during the Second World War and rebuilt to become the modern city it is today. The Dutch deserve a big applause!
