CARIBBEAN ADVENTURE

My Cuban adventure is unfortunately over but I have memories to last a lifetime! The people, the views, the sea, the smells, the sounds; they’re all still with me. Going through my pictures I can relive every moment. It was so beautiful I could not believe my eyes, so I literally jumped from happiness 🙂 If you know me well, you’re probably already tired of me talking about Cuba and showing you all the photos, but for those of you who don’t – I take you now to Cuba! 🙂 April is a good time to visit as the weather doesn’t get too hot. When booking, keep in mind that May is the rainy season. Other than that, you should have sun and perfect weather all the time 🙂 It was already my second time in Cuba, so I went to a different place – Cayo Guillermo, an island on the North side of Cuba. Most important for me when going on such holiday is to choose a place with a beautiful beach and I made no mistake. …

WHERE THE SUN ALWAYS SHINES

Fuerteventura Today I take you to sunny Fuerteventura! It is the second largest of the Canary Islands located off the coasts of Africa. Beaches & Day Trips   You can enjoy the island all year-round, in Fuerteventura the summer never ends. It has some of the best and longest beaches of all the Canary Islands. Corralejo Around Corralejo are located some of the best sand beaches I have ever seen! Whether you wish to hit the waves or just watch the surfers, the place is a real gem! The region is part of a Natural Park with beautiful dunes blending in with the turquoise water. From Corralejo you can take a bus or taxi (it is not expensive) to Grandes Playas. It is only a short ride away. You have to go there! If you get a chance, go before the sunset and walk on the dunes. Jandia & Morro Jable I went on a day trip down South to Morro Jable. I strongly recommend it! Morro Jable has an incredible beach, however, the best beaches for surfers are just …

GODS AND HEROES

You have all heard the story about the legendary Odysseus, king of Ithaca. He is probably the best known hero in Homer’s epic poem the Odyssey. Legend goes that it took Odysseus twenty years to return to Ithaca – ten fighting the Trojan War and another ten for the journey back home. During all these years, his wife Penelope stayed faithful until they finally reunited. Odysseus reasserted his place as the rightful king of Ithaca after all the years of travails trying to return home. This is how Odysseus described Ithaca: I am Odysseus, son of Laertes, known to the world for every kind of craft – my fame has reached the skies. Sunny Ithaca is my home. Atop her stands our seamark, Mount Neriton’s leafy ridges shimmering in the wind. Around her a ring of islands circle side-by-side, Doulichion, Same, wooded Zacynthos too, but mine lies low and away, the farthest out to sea, rearing into the western dusk while the others face the east and breaking day. (Odyssey book IX, trans. Robert Fagles) This epic …

CUBA FOR A CHANGE

Most would agree that the best way to spend New Year’s Eve is in the company of your closest friends and family. With pleasant conversations and delicious meals you can  count down the minutes to the next year. I’ve always associated the holidays with Christmas trees, lights, and lots of snow.  But last year it was different. I decided to have a completely new experience and go down South. I left cold Toronto a few days before the year end to find out what the warm and sunny foreign lands have to offer. Oh, was it beautiful! The Christmas trees turned into palm trees, the snow into sand, and instead of eggnog I drank coconut milk. No complains whatsoever! I’ve been daydreaming of Cuba ever since.
