LIFE IS BETTER IN A BIKINI

If you know me, you know how much I love summer – being outside, meeting friends and going to the beach. What’s not to love? I still refuse to accept the fact that summer is over. My tan lines start to fade and no good summer fruit is to be found in the store anymore. But what I’ve got is all those amazing summer memories, those moments that I will keep coming back to. Today I take you to a Greek village I love returning to whenever I get a chance. It’s one of the places that for me feel like home. The name is Afytos and it is located in Chalkidiki, in the north of the Kassandra peninsula and also the north of Greece. It is a village about an hour drive from the airport in Thessaloniki, the second-largest city in Greece. All around the country you can find such authentic and picturesque villages that will really make a lasting impression. Afytos is quite small but what I love is the combination of romantic …

THE PRESSURE OF GROWING UP

I recently turned 27 and for me it was a time to stop for a minute, take a look at myself, see where I am today, and ask some questions. I am just one of many twenty-something year olds trying to make sense of their lives. It’s when you hit the late twenties (or maybe earlier) that it all starts. Your social media feed fills with beautiful engagement rings, wedding photos and cute smiling babies. This can bring a whole lot of emotions. Not all of us will be affected but it doesn’t mean that we can ignore those real anxieties women face as they approach their 30s and their biological clocks tick louder than ever. Even if you don’t want to have children, you can still hear the ticking. We must have found a stable job, made enough money, found someone to have a baby with or figured out that we actually don’t want to have a baby, gone travelling, bought a house…Of course not for everyone the list would look like this, but …

BLESSED

Life lately… The days are getting longer and sunnier and my happiness levels are rising : ) It’s springtime, by far my favourite time of the year in Holland. It’s time for leather jackets, beach and rose wine. What I’ll never get tired of are those lazy weekends at the beach in Den Haag. I’m blessed to be living so close to the beach. And I obviously get there by bike. You can hardly survive living here without cycling : ) I also finally bough the Rayban sunglasses I’ve been wanting and wore them all day at the beach. Getting ready for the Cuban sun in a week : )))

LITTLE TREATS

We all have those moments when we need just a little something to lift us up. Very often it seems like an unnecessary purchase but it feels so good! Although such spontaneous purchases should not be too hard on our budget, big or small, they can make a huge difference! For myself, going to the market and buying fresh flowers works like magic. I am all about decorating my space and the flowers bring the place to life. How do you treat yourself? Spa? Fancy places? New book?

HOW TO BE A PARISIAN WHEREVER YOU ARE

If you still haven’t gotten your hands on this book, now is the perfect time to cozy up with a good read! Because we all love Paris and the melody of the French language, perhaps at some point in our lives we wanted to be French, or just because life as a Parisian is plus belle, the book written by the four girlfriends Anne Berest, Audrey Diwan, Caroline de Maigret and Sophie Mas is a must have. How to be a Parisian Wherever You Are gives a glimpse into the lives of typical Parisians, beauty tips, tips about the do’s and don’ts in fashion, and French recipes. And above all, it is hilarious! One of my favourite quotes from the book: “Take the time to talk to the elderly lady next door, to read a book, to walk to work instead of riding the subway when it’s a beautiful day. Take the time to escape for a weekend with friends. Take the time to listen and to get to know yourself. Take the time to change, to …

11 THINGS ABOUT LIVING ALONE

I moved out when I was 17. Until then I have always lived with my parents. As scary as it was, I was excited to think that it was a new beginning, a new challenge, all part of growing up. I was not only moving to a new city, I changed continents. It was an adventure. Even though I very much enjoy the company of other people and I’ve always been outgoing, spending time alone recharges me and makes a huge difference. I will share with you some of the things that happen when you live alone. You are the queen of the castle. This means you get to set the rules! Nobody complains how you do things, so you live as you like. Pure luxury! The remote control is all yours, all day, everyday. For me this means I get to watch all the TV shows I want and as many comedies as I like. Getting dressed becomes optional.Hello freedom! I love you. The longer you live alone, the more random things you have done without your pants …

COFFEE TALK

While my personal philosophy is that you should aim to make everyday wonderful, with my increasingly busy schedule revolving around work and personal development,  it’s not too difficult to get caught up in the routine. It is harder than ever before to find time for the things I enjoy, be it a nice walk, girl talk, reading a new book, morning run, or drinking coffee. Imagine that you had one day without stressing over work, thinking about school, or other responsibilities. What would your perfect day look like? Would you stay in bed for as long as you can? Maybe you would read a book? Or would you prefer to sit in the sun, sip your favourite drink and watch the people walk by? Tell me all about it.

she said YES!

I was recently asked to be a bridesmaid at the wedding of one of my best friends. It’s such a lovely and meaningful tribute! Of course lets not forget that with such great honour, comes great responsibility. I enjoyed every moment of it! It’s only unfortunate that we now live far away from each other, in different countries actually. The planning, the laughs, the memories…it’s great to be part of it all. Since most of my friends live abroad, this is not so easy. Nevertheless, I do my best and try to be there on every such occasion. Below I am sharing some photos from the wedding. Isn’t she gorgeous? Blue was not the first colour that came to my mind when we were discussing the bridesmaids’ dresses but I really like the ones we chose in the end.
