LIFE IS BETTER IN A BIKINI

If you know me, you know how much I love summer – being outside, meeting friends and going to the beach. What’s not to love? I still refuse to accept the fact that summer is over. My tan lines start to fade and no good summer fruit is to be found in the store anymore. But what I’ve got is all those amazing summer memories, those moments that I will keep coming back to. Today I take you to a Greek village I love returning to whenever I get a chance. It’s one of the places that for me feel like home. The name is Afytos and it is located in Chalkidiki, in the north of the Kassandra peninsula and also the north of Greece. It is a village about an hour drive from the airport in Thessaloniki, the second-largest city in Greece. All around the country you can find such authentic and picturesque villages that will really make a lasting impression. Afytos is quite small but what I love is the combination of romantic …

WEEKEND VIBES

Hope you are all enjoying your weekend. I woke up today dreaming of the ocean, wild salt air and sun-kissed skin. You would understand if you are obsessed as much as I am with summer and all the good things that come with it. What do you dream about today? Love, Adriana

LAST MINUTE BEACH HOLIDAY IN SEPTEMBER

Summer is slowly coming to an end and want it or not, sooner than you think, you will be pulling out the sweaters out of your closet. If you love the beach as much as I do and don’t want summer to be over just yet, here is an idea for you – go to Algarve, Portugal. This is the South part of the country, full of amazing beaches. And chances are that even end of September will have perfect weather for the beach 🙂 I landed in Faro and stayed in Pine Cliffs Resort, which is a short drive away from Albufeira. Its breath-taking beach location offers you unique views over the ocean. I fell in love with the interior of the place. The resort also has a great bar with a lovely view over the ocean. Don’t miss the sunset there. Enjoy a glass of wine as the sun sets behind the cliffs. Since I was only there for four days and with so many things to do and lovely places to see, the …

CARIBBEAN ADVENTURE

My Cuban adventure is unfortunately over but I have memories to last a lifetime! The people, the views, the sea, the smells, the sounds; they’re all still with me. Going through my pictures I can relive every moment. It was so beautiful I could not believe my eyes, so I literally jumped from happiness 🙂 If you know me well, you’re probably already tired of me talking about Cuba and showing you all the photos, but for those of you who don’t – I take you now to Cuba! 🙂 April is a good time to visit as the weather doesn’t get too hot. When booking, keep in mind that May is the rainy season. Other than that, you should have sun and perfect weather all the time 🙂 It was already my second time in Cuba, so I went to a different place – Cayo Guillermo, an island on the North side of Cuba. Most important for me when going on such holiday is to choose a place with a beautiful beach and I made no mistake. …

A DAY AT THE BEACH

Living in a city that has a beach makes such a big difference, even though The Hague is far from being the first place that comes to your mind when you think of it. This year has been pretty cold and I am really looking forward to those warm sunny days. Despite the cold and gloomy weather, I often go to the beach on weekends. The sea and the relaxing atmosphere calms me down, and whenever I am there it feels as if I am on vacation. Today I discovered that the beach bars are welcoming their first visitors, so I officially opened the season! 🙂 There was even some live music at the pier.

BY THE SEA

One of the best perks of living in The Hague is definitely the beach. Although the weather rarely allows sunbathing, you will make no mistake to go for a short walk, coffee, or dinner. I prefer Scheveningen beach. It is usually more lively (and extremely crowded on a hot summer day!) than the other beaches around here. I especially love going there after work. For a few hours I feel like a tourist, drinking cocktails and watching the sunset. The summer, of course, is the best time to go, but I very much enjoy going to Scheveningen on weekends, drifting away and shutting off for a moment.

GODS AND HEROES

You have all heard the story about the legendary Odysseus, king of Ithaca. He is probably the best known hero in Homer’s epic poem the Odyssey. Legend goes that it took Odysseus twenty years to return to Ithaca – ten fighting the Trojan War and another ten for the journey back home. During all these years, his wife Penelope stayed faithful until they finally reunited. Odysseus reasserted his place as the rightful king of Ithaca after all the years of travails trying to return home. This is how Odysseus described Ithaca: I am Odysseus, son of Laertes, known to the world for every kind of craft – my fame has reached the skies. Sunny Ithaca is my home. Atop her stands our seamark, Mount Neriton’s leafy ridges shimmering in the wind. Around her a ring of islands circle side-by-side, Doulichion, Same, wooded Zacynthos too, but mine lies low and away, the farthest out to sea, rearing into the western dusk while the others face the east and breaking day. (Odyssey book IX, trans. Robert Fagles) This epic …

GREECE <3

I know it is still December but I am already starting to think of where I want to spend my summer vacation. I miss the sunny beaches soooo much! I even started taking vitamin D. Seriously, I pretty much see the sunshine only on TV. So while thinking of all this, I thought I’ll show you the place where I’ve been spending some time during the last couple of summers. It is not the most popular destination but for me it was love from first sight. If you know me, you’d know that I love Greece. I like the food, the people, the islands, the beaches…just the way I feel when I’m there. It feels like home. I even started learning the language. A year cannot go by without going back a few times. Sooo…this is not the only post you’ll get about Greece. Today I take you to Parga. It is a small town, a village even, on the West coast of Greece. Parga may be small but it does have a castle (watch your step …

ROTTERDAM SUNSETS

The harbour of Rotterdam has become one of the most important harbours in the world and it is the biggest one in Europe. Rotterdam is the second largest Dutch city with a mix of modern culture, innovative developments, and historical heritage. It was almost completely destroyed after being bombed by German air attacks during the Second World War and rebuilt to become the modern city it is today. The Dutch deserve a big applause!
